Panasonic VIERA U1 Series TC-P42U1 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV

42″ Plasma, 1080p, 3 HDMI, Native contrast ratio 30,000:1, Infinite Black Dynamic contrast, 600 Hz Subfield Drive

Overall very happy after a month with the appearance, ease of setup and picture quality. I knew I wanted a plasma for under 00 because I will use it only for TV and DVD/Blue Ray. Did extensive research beforehand with Consumer Reports and online reviews. My one concern based on the reviews was the frequency of the power supply blowing and service issues, so I did buy a service contract along with the set. I don’t have it wall mounted and was pleased with how sturdy and easy to assemble the TV on the stand turned out to be (unlike my Sony of 5 years ago). I did have to call tech support once for setup help…was on hold for about 10 minutes but the person who came on the line was friendly and quickly guided me to one step that I had omitted (manual not crystal clear on everything).

Panasonic VIERA X1 Series TC-P42X1 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV

42″ Plasma, 720p, 3 HDMI, Native contrast ratio 30,000:1, Dynamic contrast infinite black 2,000,000:1, Game Mode, Anti Reflective Filter, 600 Hz Subfield Drive

I spent a long time deliberating over an LCD or plasma. After much debate I decided to go with the plasma. I like to watch football and fast action movies and I was a little concerned over what I had seen with most LCD’s at the local mart. I hadn’t had the opportunity to do any side by side comparisons so I was a little nervous about ordering, especially such a large item. All in all I have been very pleased with this TV. Absolutely no blurring on anything I have watched and I have had the TV now for 4 months and love it. The 720p is more than enough for a 42 inch screen. I’ve have a blue ray player hooked to it and the picture is soooooo sweet. It has decent sound but mine is hooked to a surround sound system I built piece by piece and so that did not matter much to me. I do love the many different inputs, one for the X-Box, 3 USB ports for a computer or other digital items, digital stereo hook up. You name it seems to have everything you could need. I am very pleased. I should mention as well that the delivery was great to. I think setup was suppose to be included but where I live in Maine and it was delivered in cold weather, it was better to let the TV acclimate before plugging it in any way.

You can also watch videos that were recorded on your Panasonic HD camcorder.

This model appears to be the same as the TH42PZ85U and was purchased from COSTCO. Ever since purchasing a Panasonic SD9 high definition video camera I have been wishing to upgrade my TV to the HD format. After looking at many LCD and Plasma televisions I found myself drawn to the Panasonic Plasma HDTV. After a six month wait I took the plung and purchased the 42″ Panasonic 1080p HD set. I haven’t used it for regular television broadcasts yet, but have set it up to play my Blu-ray player(also a Panasonic), an HD player and a DVD recorder. The footage that I have shot with the Panasonic HD camera is nothing short of STUNNING on this set! Watching this footage reminds of the days of 70mm presentations in movie theatres when we saw stunning images from films like “Lawrence of Arabia”, “The Sound of Music”, “West Side Story”, etc. The Blu-ray, HD and HD video all have incredible color, brightness and sharpness. The Panasonic Plasma was not difficult to set up and I’m am very pleased with my purchase. Highly recommended!

Amazing color reproduction

The incredible black reproduction of a Panasonic High-Definition Plasma TV results in impressive contrast and beautiful, natural colors. So you’ll get warm, accurate skin tones, gorgeous greens, breathtaking blues and vivid reds. For color that’s as rich and bold as life itself, look to a Panasonic Plasma TV.

Consistent brightness from any angle

A Panasonic Plasma combines anti-glare and anti-reflection technology with the natural light-emitting properties of plasma, to give you a super-wide viewing range with a crisp, beautiful image from almost any angle.

Smooth, graceful motion

When you’re watching sports or movies with fast-motion graphics, you want a TV that can keep up with the action. With over 900 lines of moving picture, self-illuminating plasma displays eliminate afterimages in fast-action scenes. So whether you’re watching a sporting event or an action-packed movie, you’ll always get the most impressive viewing experience possible.

1,000,000:1 Contrast

The Panasonic’s Real Black system (a pre-discharge suppression system) and improved panel production processes combine to reproduce outstanding blacks with superb contrast. Each image is richly expressive, from bright scense, like scorching desert landscapes, to dark cave scenes. Compare the image produced by conventional HDTV on the left to the Real Black image produced on the right

More Colors

Viera HDTVs support the xvYCC color profile (Extended YCC Colorimetry for Video Applications), or “x.v. color” for short. Standard RGB color space allows the display of a portion of the colors that are viewable to the human eye. The next generation “xvYCC” color space actually offers  an available range of colors that exceeds what human eyes can recognize.
  • Next-generation “xvYCC” color space supports 1.8 times as many colors as existing HDTV signals
  • Lets HDTVs display colors more accurately
  • Enables displays with more natural and vivid colors

Deep Color

deep color eliminates visible color banding Where x.v. color expands the available range of colors your HDTV can display, Deep Color increases the number of colors your HDTV can display within that range, for smoother transitions from color to color.
  • Lets HDTVs and other displays go from millions of colors to billions of colors
  • Eliminates on-screen color banding, for smooth tonal transitions and subtle gradations between colors
  • Enables increased contrast ratio
  • Can represent many times more shades of gray between black and white.

Connectivity

Viera flat panel HDTVs interact with an array of high-definition devices and services, making it easy for consumers to access and enjoy content as never before. As of 2008, Viera Link is compatible with Onkyo and Yamaha home theater systems.

Videos and stills recorded on SD cards can easily be viewed via the SD slots on Panasonic Blu-Ray Disc players and Viera HDTVs. Viera Link means easy connectivity via HDMI cables. Finally, consumers can easily operate their Blu-Ray Disc players, DVD recorders and home theater systems with a single remote control device.
SD Cards Viera Link
4 HDMI inputs to connect all of your devices directly to your television. Equipped with an RGB input terminal, VIERA can connect with your PC and serve as a large-screen monitor.
Easy connectivity with HDMI ports pc input

Long Life

long life Panasonic plasma panels are rated to last 100,000 hours, which is about 30 years of regular or 11 years of non-stop usage before the brightness of the display is halved.

Get Full HD with Blu-Ray Disc Players

Blu-Ray disc player A Panasonic 1080p plasma television is able to render 1920×1080 pixels, but standard DVDs have a resolution of just 720×480. Blu-ray discs output true 1080p High-Definition resolution and have a storage capacity ten times greater than standard DVDs, so no pixel gos to waste.

Thought I would comment on Standard Definition (480i) source feeds. Had myself in a tizzy thinking the whole house audio/visual distribution system I designed in 1998 would have to be overhauled.

Composite (Yellow video, R/W audio RCA plugs) 480i feeds are upconverted by this unit nicely and produce a much richer picture compared to the 2003 Panasonic 42″ SDTV plasma it replaced. While the “right” way to do the setup would be HDMI cables from the DVD players to the TV, I am very satisfied with the picture and saved myself a pile of work.

While of little interest to most, I am disappointed by Panasonic’s lack of discrete IR codes for ON and FORMAT (ASPECT) in this unit. The Panasonic 42″ has codes for Full, Just and Zoom I use in the Pronto universal remotes. Having to toggle my way to Zoom is a bother. OK, not important but this unit doesn’t do something the old one does and that is not progress. Minus 1 Star.

If you have HD sources, do the HDMI work. If you don’t, let the TV do the work and just enjoy your DVDs.

BTW – I bought this from TigerDirect, their customer service and shipping to Hawaii was terrible.

I read most of the reviews submitted for this TV. I am absolutely not with those that existed less than a pound control. I found the image to be in amazing clarity, great color, tone and contrast. These properties are very much on my Time Warner Cable HD channels. I can not have seen this comment in relation to the cable, as I do not ever do it. "

How can we use this TV in the bedroom and the26-inch size is perfect for our rooms sizes. This is only about 2 meters behind the end of the bed. I had a Samsung 32 inch for 15 months and it went wrong, and would cost $ 275.00 to fix the problem. Spoken with Samsung and the factory has given me an extension of 3 months of factory warranty. However, it would cost approximately $ 100.00 must ship back to New Jersey for the factory repair. I searched the Internet and the wound again here at my favorite place to shop. Are in a free Amazon Prime shipping has been includedfor 2 days delivery time. The device cost me only $ 289.00 What type of business.

Shipping. I bought it on a Friday and since the president came during the holiday weekend was promised delivery the following Tuesday. This does not happen, tho came the next day, Saturday, February 13th. How come for the service of Amazon?
